Insurance Coverage

All students/renters will be required to purchase and maintain renter’s insurance or other personal coverage. You the renter are responsible for all damage to the aircraft personally and at all times while renting/training/piloting the aircraft.

The good news is that we keep our prices low to reflect this extra level of coverage provided by you the renter. The great news is that you can get a particularly good rate that allows you to obtain a much better level of liability and damage coverage to the aircraft in the event of pilot errors and accidents. We have worked with our insurance broker to make it a simple process that can be done online in just a few minutes and this coverage is for you personally and covers all of your aviation renters’ use at any company.

You will be required to purchase coverage prior to any flights in at least the amounts listed below. If you already have coverage then just bring us your policy number, if not, grab a coffee and go to this website to start the application.

  • Those student pilots that are flying with instructors and don’t want to purchase coverage will be charged an additional 5% fee on all flight services.

  • Higher coverage limits are available and strongly recommend do to the liability the pilot assumes from the operation of aircraft. Be aware that most personal coverage offered by non-aviation companies will not cover aircraft accidents.

  • The renter/pilot is potentially personally liable for the entire cost of damages regardless of insurance coverage, make sure you are comfortable with your minimums.

FAQ

CAN I CANCEL THE POLICY ANYTIME?
Yes, the policy does have a non-refundable amount that is about 50% of the yearly cost or 6 months. If you would like to stop training at anytime or if your training is only or a limited time, then you would be able to receive a refund of up to 50% of the premium.

CAN I GET MONTHLY COVERAGE?
Yes, this is a much more complicated process, but it is possible, call for more details.

SHOULD I PURCHASE MORE COVERAGE?
This is a personal choice that gets easily over looked. When using the minimums shown above and in the event of a serious accident, the value can get used up quickly. The fact that you are responsible for all damage to the aircraft, if you do not have enough coverage, forces any amount over your coverage to come from you personally. In a recent event, a renter struck a parked vehicle while taxing, this caused wing damage in an amount much more than the coverage purchased that the renter must now pay out of pocket.

GENERALLY, WHAT DOES THIS POLICY COVER? Please read the entire policy for specifics and a complete understanding. The information below is not directly from the policy and you should read the entire policy prior to purchase if you have any questions.

PILOT OVER-SPEEDS?
Yes, if you create the Overspeed by pilot error, then you are covered. In the event it’s a mechanical issue that you had no control over, then this would fall to the company insurance policy.

FLAT TIRES AND FLAT SPOTS?
No, but the resultant damage to the airframe and or engine is covered.

AIRCRAFT DOWN TIME and loss of use?
Yes, if you have a covered loss and enough physical damage coverage to pay the additional downtime costs. Each scenario is different, and you simply can’t have enough insurance. We will work with you in the event of damage and downtime as much as possible but if you purchase the minimums and significant downtime is experienced, there could be some additional costs associated.

TAXIING DAMAGE? - Yes
TIE-DOWN DAMAGE? - Yes
HAIL? WIND, NATURAL DISASTER? – No (renter negligence)
BIRD STRIKES, ANIMALS ON RUNWAY? – No (renter negligence)
MECHANICAL FAILURES? – No, this falls to the company policy
PILOT ERROR WHILE DUAL? – Yes, if the Renter is negligent.
PILOT ERROR WHILE SOLO/RENTAL? – Yes
WHAT’S THE DEDUCTIBLE RISK? None, renter’s insurance in the amounts shown above covers that risk.

THIS SEEMS EXPENSIVE, WHAT IS THE VALUE TO ME?
The simple answer is that you are saving money by having personal insurance and not paying for the additional rental cost per hour if the company covered those risks on the aircraft. As an example: After 40 hours of flight time in a helicopter you are saving about $50 an hour for each hour you fly. If you cancel your policy, then you would only need to fly 20 hours to cover this insurance cost.
