Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our multi program has a proven track record and extremely high first time pass rate and we have expedient check ride scheduling. Our Baron 55 is one of the most up to date models with glass cockpit, air conditioning, new paint and interior. We also choose to use factory new engines when we overhaul to improve the reliability and safety.

Our flight school has a very comfortable environment with plenty of lounge and study areas for you to use during your training.

  • If you are not a US citizen, any Multi-Engine training will require TSA authorization prior to starting your training. If you let us know in advance, we can expedite our administration on this process, and in most cases, will reduce clearance time down to about 7 days.

  • If you’ve already obtained a private pilot certificate, the multi engine rating becomes what is known as an “add-on” rating. Since the candidate has already accomplished many of the tasks required for a pilot certificate and fulfilled the aeronautical experience requirements, earning the rating becomes a matter of learning the differences, understanding a new airplane, and proving proficiency to an examiner. In an accelerated program, this can be completed in a week and 10-12 hours of flight time.

Required for a multi engine rating:

Earn the required endorsements from an authorized instructor,

Take and pass a checkride with an examiner to act as PIC of a multi engine aircraft.

Not required to earn a multi engine rating:

No requirement for a knowledge test (when the multi engine rating is conducted as an add-on),

No minimum flight time requirement (however you can expect to need 10 to 15 hours in the multi engine airplane before receiving endorsements from an instructor),

If the candidate has never earned a previous pilot certificate, the requirements must be met for a private pilot certificate, although the multi engine aircraft may be used for all training.

  • Specialized Aviation is committed to train our students to highest standards and we are proud to have an excellent pass-rate at first attempt. We are working hard to guide you to a successful completion of your training within the scheduled training period. Although most students can finish the course in 7 days, due to the nature of aviation, time can vary from student to student. We will do our best to cater to individual learning abilities and will not send a student to check ride if we do not feel they are ready. Weather, maintenance, and ability to comprehend the material can all play as factors in time to complete the course.

The average amount of training for a commercial add-on is about 12 hours of flight time and 5 hours of ground instruction and pre- and post flight briefings. These times may vary for each individual student. Training can be sped up tremendously if the candidate prepares for the training as specified by our instructor with the supplied materials.

  • While we are trying to minimize schedule changes due to weather, aircraft maintenance and other factors, those changes can happen, and training schedules will need to be adjusted, sometimes on short notice.

If you’re training is cancelled for weather or maintenance we will do our best to reschedule to accommodate your individual needs as soon as we can. We can not cancel other students, but can usually schedule in a timely manner. The deposit is refundable if you can not rebook.

  • Per our rental agreement you would be liable for any damage caused to the aircraft so insurance is required prior to flight. This can easily be obtained through our provider and will cover you in our aircraft and all non-owned aircraft you might fly at other schools.

We accept any other personal policy you might have, if it meets our minimum of $25,000 hull damage and $250,000 in liability.

The average cost is approximately $435 and you would be able to get 1/2 back if canceled within 6 months.

  • We will need a passport or birth certificate, TSA approval if not a US citizen, drivers license, any FAA documents: 3rd class medical (or higher), current logbook entries, PDF of insurance policy, a payment card for the account, and you will need to fill out our renters agreement.

  • Yes, to weight & balance, no candidate can be over 300lbs.

Cockpit dimensions and flight control movement will also need to be taken into account. A high step is required for boarding.

Everyone who flies must demonstrate that they are able to physically adhere to our safety instructions.

  • The $800 deposit will be used towards your training and is non-refundable for any cancellation within 2 weeks of the first lesson. Any cancellations due to weather, illness, or maintenance from our end will receive a full deposit refund if you decide not to re-book. If you get ill, and need to cancel within the 2 week cancelation deadline, no refund will be issued.

A $200 admin fee is always non refundable.
